Everybody loves a dessert for the Christmas. Try something new and easy dessert for your family this year. This dessert can be made in both egg and eggless version
Ingredients:
For the Dough:
- 3 ½ cups (440g) all-purpose flour (Maida)
- 2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
- ¼ cup (50g) granulated sugar
- ½ tsp salt
- ¾ cup (180ml) warm milk
- 2 large eggs (or ¼ cup yogurt for eggless version)
- 4 tbsp (60g) ghee (clarified butter), softened
For the Filling:
- 1 cup (250g) HoYi’s strawberry preserve
- ½ cup (120g) paneer, softened and mashed
- 2 tbsp powdered sugar
- ½ tsp cardamom powder (elaichi)
For Frying and Coating:
- Vegetable oil or the oil which you prefer (for frying)
- ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar (for coating)
- Optional: A pinch of cinnamon (dalchini) powder to mix with the coating sugar
Preparation of the Bomboloni:
Once you are ready with the ingredients. Let’s start the preparation of the dessert.
- In a large mixing bowl, mix warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the milk and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Add the eggs (or yogurt for eggless), softened ghee, and mix well.
- Gradually add the flour and salt, kneading to form a soft, pliable dough.
- Knead on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
- Make the Fillings:
- For the cheese filling, mix mashed paneer, powdered sugar, and cardamom powder in a bowl until smooth.
- Transfer the cheese mixture to a piping bag.
- Shape the Bomboloni:
- Punch down the risen dough and roll it out on a floured surface to about ½-inch thickness.
- Use a round cutter (or a steel Katori) to cut out circles.
- Place the circles on a parchment-lined tray, cover, and let them rise for 30-40 minutes.
- Fry the Bomboloni:
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep kadhai
- Fry the bomboloni in batches for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Remove and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Fill and Coat the Bomboloni:
- Roll the warm bomboloni in granulated sugar mixed with a pinch of cinnamon powder (optional).
- Using a piping bag, first pipe in the cheese filling and then a generous amount of strawberry preserve into each bomboloni.
- Serve:
